🐘 Golu the Forgetful Elephant 🐘
A Jungle Story of Friendship and Kindness
By Manash Upadhaya
Chapter 1: Golu and the Big Jungle
Once upon a time, in the heart of a green and beautiful jungle in India, there lived a young elephant named Golu.
Golu was big in size, had long ears, a tiny tail, and a lovely round tummy. But Golu had one big problem — he used to forget everything!
He forgot where he kept his bananas.
He forgot what his mummy told him.
Sometimes, he even forgot his own birthday!
All the other animals in the jungle liked Golu. He was sweet, kind, and always ready to help. But they laughed at him too.
“Golu bhool gaya!” they would tease.
Golu would smile and say, “Sorry, bhaiya! I will try to remember next time.”
His best friend was a clever monkey named Binni. Binni always helped Golu remember things.
Chapter 2: The Jungle School
Every morning, all the baby animals went to the jungle school. The school was under a big banyan tree. The teacher was Madhumakhi Madam, the honeybee.
She was strict but loving.
“Good morning, children!” she buzzed.
“Good morning, madam!” all the animals shouted.
One day, Madhumakhi Madam said, “Tomorrow is Jungle Talent Day. Everyone must prepare something. You can sing, dance, draw, or tell a story.”
All the animals clapped happily.
“I will sing a song!” said Meenu the deer.
“I will tell a joke!” said Titu the parrot.
“I will do a magic trick!” said Binni the monkey.
Then Madam turned to Golu, “And you, Golu?”
Golu smiled and said, “I will… umm… I forgot…”
Everybody laughed.
But Binni whispered in his ear, “You always dance happily near the river. Why don’t you show your happy elephant dance?”
Golu’s eyes lit up. “Yes! I will dance!”
Chapter 3: The Big Plan
That evening, Binni came to Golu’s house to help him practise.
“Lift your leg… now swing your trunk… now jump like a balloon!” Binni shouted.
Golu danced and danced until he was tired.
“You’re doing great!” said Binni.
“But don’t forget to come to school tomorrow and perform!” she added.
Golu nodded and said, “Yes, yes! I will not forget!”
But Golu was Golu. He ate a big dinner, rolled on the grass, and fell asleep under the stars.
Chapter 4: Where is Golu?
The next morning, all the animals came to the school. The jungle was full of music, colours, and laughter.
Meenu the deer sang a lovely song.
Titu the parrot told funny jokes.
Binni the monkey did her magic trick and made bananas disappear!
Everybody clapped and clapped.
Now it was time for Golu’s turn.
“Madhumakhi Madam called, “Where is Golu? Golu the Elephant?”
But Golu was not there.
“Did he forget again?” the animals whispered.
Binni got worried. She ran through the jungle, looking for her friend.

Golu had woken up late.
He rubbed his eyes and looked around. “Oh no! I forgot about the Talent Day!”
He ran through the forest. But on the way, he heard a sound: “Help! Help!”
It was a baby rabbit stuck in a bush.
Golu pulled the thorns away with his trunk and saved the baby rabbit.
“Thank you, Golu bhaiya!” the rabbit said.
Then Golu heard another cry. “Somebody help!”
It was a peacock whose feathers got wet in the river and couldn’t fly.
Golu used his big ears to dry the peacock’s feathers.
“Thank you, Golu!” said the happy peacock.
Then Golu ran again to the school, but he was very late.
Chapter 6: Golu's Surprise
Back at the banyan tree, all the animals looked sad.
Madhumakhi Madam said, “I think Golu forgot again.”
Just then, Golu arrived, huffing and puffing.
“Sorry, madam! I was late because I helped some friends,” said Golu.
Madam smiled, “That’s okay, Golu. But do you remember your dance?”
Golu nodded, “Yes, madam!”
All the animals clapped. Golu stood in the middle and began his Happy Elephant Dance.
He lifted one leg, swung his trunk, jumped up, and turned around.
Thump! Thump! Thump!
He looked so funny and happy that even the grumpy bear laughed!
When Golu finished, all the animals gave a big cheer.
“Yayyy Golu!”
Chapter 7: The Special Award
At the end of the day, Madhumakhi Madam gave everyone chocolates and stickers.
Then she said, “Today, I want to give a Special Jungle Star Award.”
All the animals sat straight.
“This award goes to someone who danced very well and also showed kindness on the way,” she said.
“Golu the Elephant!”
Golu’s eyes became big. “Me?”
“Yes, you!” said Madam. “Because even though you forget things, you never forget to be kind.”
All the animals clapped again. Golu blushed and smiled.
“Thank you, madam! I will try to forget less and help more!”
Binni jumped on his back and said, “That’s my best friend!”
Chapter 8: Golu’s Memory Trick
From that day, Golu started using a small trick.
He tied a little leaf string on his trunk whenever he had to remember something.
One day, Meenu asked, “Golu, why do you have a string on your trunk?”
Golu smiled, “Because I have to bring mangoes for Binni!”
Another day, Titu saw two strings.
“What are those for?” he asked.
Golu said, “One is to remind me to go to school, and the other is to water the plants.”
Everyone laughed.
Soon, Golu became famous in the jungle — not for forgetting things, but for being a kind, happy, dancing elephant who always helped others.
Moral of the Story:
Even if you forget sometimes, it's okay. What matters is your heart, your kindness, and the effort you make.
Like Golu, you can learn little tricks to remember things and always choose to do good.
